Joseph is a young, painfully shy writer living in the waterlands of South Carolina. When he robs a rural juke joint with two lower-class friends, the three set off on a reckless joyride up the coast toward Myrtle Beach. What begins as a dangerous escape turns into an inward test for Joseph, as he is forced to confront his fear and search for the strength and courage he has long lacked.
