Arkansas waitress Louise and housewife Thelma set out in a 1966 Thunderbird for a short weekend break from their dreary routines. When the trip takes a violent turn and they shoot a rapist, the friends find themselves on the run. As fugitives, they rely on their bond and discover a resilience neither expected.
