Chance Buckman is a divorced oil well fire specialist who travels the world battling massive blazes in oil fields and on rigs. When an injury brings his daughter back into his life, he is unsettled by her decision to marry Greg, one of his own team members. As Chance tries to settle into a desk job and rebuild his relationship with Madelyn, a major oil rig fire in Venezuela pulls him back toward the work that defines him.
